I don’t know about everyone else but I am, in substance, the same person I was when I reached adulthood. But I really don’t look the same at all. I wear my dress differently, I like different types of clothes, I use different type of accessories, I read different kind of books (even though I  keep my lifetime favorites), you know what I mean…we change with time, even though we are the same people. Well our brands must do the same in order to stay relevant and keep growing. But when should we refresh our brand’s look?  After sending my question into the Google Search universe it was evident that the answer exists within each brand as they are alive and evolving like their owners and customers; or to be more specific for our writers; Authors’ brands and their audience should grow and evolve together. Below are some of the trends of thought I found on when to refresh your brand’s look.

·       Every now and then, as often as you can? Really? Yup, often is good. Some experts say 18 months to 2.5 years; others say 3-4 years. In my opinion though, we should be careful not to overdo it and lose your brand’s identity. There needs to be a balance so that the people that follow you can still recognize you. Too much too often might also be confusing or off putting. So use common sense and hold on a little longer if the brand’s design doesn’t feel outdated or stalling.

·       Your Vision or Mission has changed; or after a major eventThis one to me makes sense, and feels actually necessary. In fact, it has been one of the catalysts for some of the changes some of you might have noticed happening slowly but surely on our websites, newsletter, and even Literary Awards.

·       Your Brand is not working or there are flaws in the design – Sometimes we design a brand and keep tweaking correcting flaws for months and even years trying to make it work to no avail. This only produces unhappy customers and unreached goals, so rebranding is the best tool to start over having learned from your mistakes.

Reader Views and affiliates have been around since 2005 adapting to change and evolving with our Authors and Audience for 15 years. We think it is time to refresh our brand across the board. There will be changes, we will look different…but it will still be us! Just better, with a slicker look, still offering personal attention to our readers and authors book by book.
