Karen Gellender

Author/Reviewer

After graduating from SUNY Albany Summa Cum Laude with a degree in English, I pursued writing and drawing comic books for a few years. Eventually it became clear that was not going to pay the bills, so I transitioned into writing and editing for local newspapers. After a few years of newspaper work, I left to start a family. For a while I was a stay-at-home Mom, but writing my novels kept me busy. Craving more education, I earned an MA in English from Mercy University and even taught English 101 for a few semesters at MU.

More recently, I have been teaching middle school kids in the Bronx how to draw comics in an aninme/manga style. During all this time, I was writing about anime and manga on the sites Japanator and Otakusphere (both sadly defunct), and eventually started reviewing materials for The Fandom Post. I have my own website, Karenlmead.com, which is mostly for the promotion of my novels, but I also keep a blog there that features some book reviews.
