Book Proposal - Coaching and Presentation to Agent/Publisher

picture of a man studying a bookWhat we offer

We are offering coaching to prospective authors, with a completed or nearly completed manuscript, on creating a top-notch book proposal.  We also offer to present the completed book proposal to prospective agents/traditional publishers on our list.  These agents/publishers have agreed to look at the proposals that we present to them. There is no guarantee that the agent/publisher will accept the proposal, however, they will accept the proposal for further perusal.

Our package includes:

Stage 1: Review of manuscript.

Stage 2:  After initial review of manuscript, acceptance by coach to work with author, and signing of a contract, the creative process will begin. (Estimated time: 3 to 6 months.  Time will depend on the speediness of the author and could take only several weeks. The author will ensure this stage is no longer than 6 months.)

Stage 3:  Coach will present finished proposal to agents and/or publishers on behalf of the author. (Estimated time:  Up to one year.)

Fee:

Stage 1:  $75 flat fee for review of manuscript.   An independent reviewer will be assigned by the coach to review the initial manuscript. This fee must be paid at the time the manuscript is sent to the reviewer.

The review will be presented to the author within 3 weeks of the receipt of the manuscript and a decision made by the coach if the contract will be executed.  If the coach does not feel the manuscript has merit for further pursuit, the contract will be terminated by the coach and no other fees will apply.

Stage 2: $200 flat fee for coaching paid when the coach and author mutually accept to continue with the contract. The coach will direct the author in a step-by-step process to create the proposal.  The author will do all the exercises and present them to the coach in a timely manner.  The final proposal will be created by the author and given to the coach for presentation to agents/publishers.

Stage 3:  $300 flat fee or 15% of advance, whichever is higher, within 30 days of signing contract with a publisher and/or receiving advance from publisher.

Stage 4:  When the sales exceed 3000 books the author will pay the coach 10% of the royalties received from the publisher. The 10% fee will only apply to sales over 3000 books.

Other information:

The author enters into a contract with the understanding that he or she is responsible for creating his or her own proposal. The coach will guide the author step-by-step on how to create the proposal and will present the final product, created by the author, to agents/publishers.

If you are interested in this package, please send a query. The query should tell what the book is about, what is important about the book and why it should be published, why you are the best person to write this book, and who your core audience will be. As well, we want to know your marketing ideas and your platform. Please do not send me a query asking if we would send your manuscript to a publisher without you creating a proposal. The answer is definitely not!

I'm happy to share my experience in working with Irene Watson. I met her about a year ago at a retreat. When I learned her company does book reviews, I submitted a manuscript and two audio cd's. She coached me into listing my works on Amazon and posted the Reader Views reviews there.

Irene encouraged me to get another edit of my manuscript. Although I had been working with another literary consultant/agent for over a year, I took her advice--and in the end learned that the excellent editing done by her company was as important to the publisher as the content of my manuscript.

For a year and a half a seasoned agent had my manuscript with no results. But within a week after consulting with Irene, a publisher she connected me with asked to read my manuscript, and within the month I had a publisher. My book will be published in March of 2008 because of Irene Watson.

I love working with Irene. She's easy to work with and understands right pacing, right timing, and the importance of a quality product. I'm starting to think about my second book, and I definitely want her on my team. If you have any specific questions, I'm happy to answer them.
