Audiobook Production and Distribution
Audiobooks
You wrote a book. Congratulations! If you’re interested in taking the next step to turn your manuscript into a professionally produced audiobook, we can help. The following is an overview of our publishing process.
The Process
We accept submissions from authors who own all rights to their work. To submit a title for consideration, you’ll need to provide us with a copy of your work, either in manuscript format, in the form of a copy of your previously printed book, or in electronic format. We'll review your manuscript and notify you regarding acceptance of your work within 15 days.
If we accept your manuscript for publication, one of our producers will contact you. Your producer will be your point of contact throughout the production process, answering any questions you may have, personally assisting and keeping you updated every step of the way, as well as ensuring that your finished audiobook is of the highest quality possible. Your producer will provide you a copy of our publishing agreement that will spell out the terms and conditions of your project.
Once you’ve reviewed and returned a signed copy of your agreement, your producer will contact you to finalize a production schedule, discuss your options regarding a voice actor for your project, and give you the opportunity to tell us how you want your audiobook to sound.
You’ll also be asked to make a 50% deposit towards your production fee. Your production fee will cover all the costs of producing an audiobook with us from recording to mastering to manufacturing to distribution. A Production Fee Schedule is at the bottom of this page.
At this point, the actual production of your work will begin! A director, audio engineer, and voice actor will enter the studio and record your audiobook. The director will oversee the content and performance aspects of your work, the audio engineer will ensure that your audiobook is of the highest technical quality, and our voice talent is second to none. Once your audiobook is recorded, your audio engineer’s post-production work begins. The raw digital files from the recording session are shaped and refined until a professional master recording emerges. This master is reviewed by the director and again by your producer, who will double-check the audiobook for content and quality. Your producer will also work with you on the packaging and design of your finished product.
We can provide graphic templates and guidelines if you’d like to use a cover of your own design, or our graphic design team can provide a high-quality, professional cover for your audiobook for a reasonable fee. After your recording and packaging are finalized, a full master audiobook is manufactured. Your producer will inspect and review the finished product and send you a complimentary copy. Your audiobook will now be ready for sale!
Distribution
Your audiobook will be distributed via major on-line retailers as well as via Red Planet on-line bookstore, worldwideaudiobooks.com. In addition, your audiobook will include an ISBN and will be submitted to the Books-in-Print database, making it available for sale or order at virtually any “brick and mortar” bookstore in America and across the globe.
Royalties
You will be paid quarterly royalties on sales of your audiobook according to rates detailed out in this Royalty Rate Schedule:
· For each audiobook sold AT the minimum retail price (see below) via our online storefront, www.worldwideaudiobooks.com, you'll receive a 30% royalty.
· For each audiobook sold ABOVE the minimum retail price via our online storefront, you'll receive a 30% royalty of the minimum retail price, PLUS 50% of the difference between the minimum retail price and the actual sales price.
· For each audiobook sold AT the minimum retail price via another bookseller such as Amazon.com or your local brick-and-mortar bookstore, you'll receive a 15% royalty.
· For each audiobook sold ABOVE the minimum retail price via another bookseller, you'll receive a 15% royalty of the minimum retail price, PLUS 50% of all additional wholesale rates paid to us due to the difference between the minimum retail and actual sales prices.
· For each audiobook sold as a digital download, you'll receive 50% of all royalties paid to us. The MINIMUM retail price of your audiobook will depend on the number of CDs it's comprised of. Your producer will work with you to determine if higher retail prices are warranted.
