The Millionaire’s Son
I will have to say that Kirk Yancey has done a wonderful job of talking in the language you hear on the streets in violent areas of Washington, DC. His vivid descriptions of his characters and events that are happening let you get into the mind of his characters. Although the main character is called “Whiteboy” he is a light-skinned, young black man who is true to his friends and family and attracts all kinds of women. He is living the life until his best friends start getting killed off and he’s not sure what to do- exact revenge or let it go. Whiteboy is enjoying life by working some, partying a lot and using all the women he can find. His buddies are much the same, except some are more interested in drinking and smoking pot; some are hot heads and others have no clue what they are doing or where they are going. While his friend Gray is in the hospital, he meets a fine young female doctor who he hopes to bed. At first she ignores him and then gives him her number. Little did he know she was married. From a psychological point of view, I think that readers will see there is a whole different world out there they don’t know about or maybe even don’t care to know about. It certainly gives you an idea about corruption, selling drugs, gangs and broken families. This is a short and fast read, the book is only 88 pages long but it says a lot. I’m going to use “The Millionaire’s Son” for discussion in my college Psychology classes. I think it’s important for everyone to know what is going on and why. Sometimes we just don’t have a choice in life. |
