Strays When Jan turned thirty-five, she came to the realization that she had spent her entire life doing for others and decided to take a break. She dropped all of her volunteer activities except one, her work at the local no-kill animal shelter. She spent the rest of her free time on herself; doing things she had always wanted to do and could never find the time for. Then one day Allen Dross comes into the shelter and adopts Bear, her favorite cat. A transplanted New York actor, something about him causes strange feelings in Jan. She tries to brush them aside as her nurturing instinct comes into play, but the feelings intensify when she gets a note signed by Allen and Bear followed by a phone call inviting her to come and visit. She declines the invitation to the apartment but finds herself unwillingly agreeing to meet Allen for a cup of coffee. And so begins Jan’s internal struggle as she tries not to destroy her family and her marriage over a passing attraction for a man who freely admits he wants only one thing from her. The storyline was all right, nothing spectacular about it and the book itself needs a good proofreading done before the next printing. |
