Marge Wold’s book of musing titled “A Girl Grows in Old Chicago” is an interesting compilation of poems and prose. As I read the pieces I often smiled because I felt like I was right there with the author experiencing the time. One specific poem that made me reflect on my childhood was:

Walking to School

In Michigan we walked to school
in ditches deep in snow.
We never seemed to feel the cold
the way that we do now.

She concludes saying:

Just one regret the memories bring,
I can never go back.

I related very much to this piece because I lived in northern Canada and do remember those cold, snow-ridden winters.  However, unlike Marge, I don’t want to go back; I will just stick with the memory.

Marge’s book “A Girl Grows in Old Chicago” is a reflection of her own experiences with family, dating (in a car with a rumble seat,) death, and life.  Marge Wold writes with flow and compassion. Her work is pleasant to read.
