Laurette Willis, widely known as actor, author, educator and keynote speaker, provides an alternative to “the spiritual dangers of ‘power yoga’” in her new DVD “Power Praise Moves.”  Firstly, as a person who practices yoga, I disagree with Ms Willis regarding the spiritual dangers of power yoga, mainly because there is no set way of doing it. Each practitioner can create their own poses and how vigorous the workout could be.  In yoga, each person has their own spiritual values and practices, and it doesn’t necessarily reflect on the next person.  Spirituality is personal and no one can decide for another person whether or not the spiritual belief they have is right or wrong, even when practicing yoga.

However, all that said, Willis’ DVD is certainly one to consider if you are seeking a Christ-centered workout; one that combines the connection to Christ yet gives the benefits of an Eastern structure of yoga. And, the most wonderful part of Willis’ system is that anyone can benefit: young and old, small children to the elderly, those that want a vigorous workout or those that want gentle stretching. Furthermore, the “going within” during the postures will bring on serenity and peace while heightening the Christ connection.

Did I personally benefit from the exercises?  Yes, I sure did. I was able to incorporate some of the moves Willis suggests into my own yoga regime enhancing what I already do. I highly recommend “Power Praise Moves” by Laurette Willis to anyone that was shying away from yoga because it didn’t resonate with their own beliefs.  For anyone that is Christ-centered, this one will; it will give you physical benefits as well.
