“The Princess” tells the contemporary story of the lovely and graceful Shelby who lives a simple but devoted life with Daria, her mother, and Josiah, her deaf father, who is a barber.  Her wholesomeness and devout life is soon noticed by the king and queen of the House of Markham, who are searching for a new wife for their widowed son, Prince Nikolai.

What soon develops is an arranged marriage between Shelby and Nikolai who appear to be the perfect couple at all public functions.  But problems abound under the surface for Shelby who has left her home and all that is familiar to come and live with the royal family.  She has no one to confide in or share her problems with, for there are some things a new bride just cannot share with a mother-in-law.  Daily prayers and conversations with God enable Shelby to get by.

Nikolai struggles with his own problems because he loved his now departed first wife so much, and it is too soon to even think that another could replace her in his broken heart.  Such a distant relationship leaves Shelby and Nikolai quite empty and alone.  Both believe in God, the power of prayer, and the sovereignty of God, however, and God works miracles.

I am a fan of Lori Wick, and I enjoy a good romantic Christian fairy tale.  Shelby is the PERFECT princess with beauty, grace and personality.  Nikolai is tall, handsome, knows how to treat a lady, and is such a caring husband to Shelby.  For these reasons, I loved this story of a contemporary arranged marriage.  Of course, I doubt we could ever find such perfect people as Shelby and Nikolai, but that is what makes reading fiction so enjoyable.  Just escape reality a while and enjoy the journey Lori Wick will take you on.

I highly recommend “The Princess” and give it a five-star rating without a doubt.  It is appropriate for all ages of readers from teens and above.  Lori Wick writes a lovely story without having to resort to shock or violence to keep her readers riveted.
