The year is 2012, and what appears to be a huge asteroid has just crash landed on earth.  This event has caused the obliteration of the majority of the world population.  Strangely enough, what appears to be a tragedy has also caused the planet to heal itself. Once again the air is clean and the waters run clear.  The adventure really begins when further investigation into the “asteroid” reveals that it is actually a crashed space ship.  The sole occupant of the ship appears in humanoid form.  In addition to a great deal of charisma and the ability to enable for people of all cultures to hear him speak in their language, “The One” also brings the gift of healing.  Seen more as a god than an alien, people revere him.  As political turmoil begins to arise, especially with countries like Israel and Russia, The One manages to deal with it very effectively.

Adam and Eve are a married couple from the United States.  They decide to move to Aruba for a fresh start.  Opening up a medical practice there, they continue to watch the news and see how The One is affecting everyone that he meets.  The couple is very excited when they hear that The One is moving to Aruba.  When they finally get to meet him, they are enthralled by him.  When he gifts them with the ability to heal and rejuvenate others, they become totally immersed in doing so. Undeterred by the fact that this healing method comes in the form of a virus that is transmitted through intimate contact, Adam and Eve are eager to share their gifts. This healing comes at a huge financial price to the recipients, but it is well worth it.  It is also something that they use to help their family members who are old and in poor health.  Even as their lives improve, they have to wonder who The One is. Is he a god, or something else?

I enjoyed reading this book.  I truly appreciate the uniqueness of this story.  The author, Christopher White, has used his incredible imagination to create a whole new version of what might happen in 2012.  I do have to admit that there are definitely aspects to this story that I found disturbing.  There is a warning on the cover that this book is for persons over the age of 18 and it “contains content of an explicit sexual nature.”  This is very true.  So be warned! For some people this will be a bonus.  For other people they might find themselves feeling a bit shocked.  What is interesting to note is that as I read what was happening, I had to stop and wonder how far people would be willing to go if they knew that they could heal others of terminal illnesses, especially family members and children.

The book would greatly benefit from finer editing.  There were a large variety of grammatical and punctuation mistakes, as well as misspellings, that detracted from the story. Overall, I think that open minded readers who are looking for something unique to read will enjoy “2012 - The One.”
