Fireflies, Moonlight and All That Jazz "Fireflies, Moonlight and All That Jazz" is a compilation of short poems written by Tammy Lynn Whisman. In this book, she uses vivid descriptions which allow the reader to share some of her deepest thoughts and experiences. She quickly captured my attention and many of her poems, especially those centered on events such as sunrises and changes of seasons, left me with reminders of the peace and beauty that exist in nature. Several of the other entries concentrated on passions – passion that exists in romantic relationships, as well as passion needed to help strive toward and achieve one's goals. I was impressed with how she can say so much with so few words. This book will appeal mainly to females, but males who have a sensitive side will enjoy it also. "Fireflies, Moonlight and All That Jazz" is an excellent choice for anyone who has had a stressful day and needs to relax. The short length of each entry allows the reader to reflect on the poem's meaning without becoming lost in too many details. This would be good to read right before going to sleep or even while soaking in the bathtub. It will bring a sense of tranquility to assist in forgetting the stressors of the day. I liked the cover of the book but I thought the internal layout was a bit bland. A few well-placed illustrations would enhance the aesthetic quality without detracting from the written words. Also perhaps different fonts or print styles scattered throughout would add some much needed variety. Overall, "Fireflies, Moonlight and All That Jazz" is a truly inspirational book. Whisman shares her views on a variety of everyday subjects and leaves the reader feeling peaceful and calm. By baring her soul, she challenges the reader to search his or her heart to recollect past experiences that resulted in deep emotions -- whether painful or joyful. |
