In her book “Rediscovering Your Happily Ever After: Moving from Hopeless to Hopeful as a Newly Divorced Mother,” author and devout Christian PeggySue Wells writes about her steep climb out of divorce to discover who she is and where she will be going next. Her recipe for sharing her story with other newly divorced mothers includes scripture passages, sage advice and a pinch of humor, i.e., “I could have been the visual aid for the Scarlett O’Hara syndrome.”

Wells manages to touch on every aspect of the typical divorce scenario with the empathy of someone who has seen and survived it. Chapters address important, universal questions such as “Who am I now that I am no longer ‘Mrs.’?,” “Do I have to forgive?,” “How do I help my family survive and thrive?,” “How do I get emotionally unstuck?,” and “What future will I choose?” In answering these, as well as other pertinent questions no doubt being asked by those engaged in this same struggle, the author relies heavily on her biblical perspective. The book provides readers with many encouraging tips, uplifting quotes and doable action steps. Each chapter concludes with short, motivational summaries titled “Looking Back” and “Moving Ahead.”

While the author has an easy, conversational writing style, her inclusion, cover to cover, of passages from scriptures and quotes from other sources was a disruption of the conversation between author and reader. Yet, despite this annoying distraction, the book is still a worthwhile read.

PeggySue Wells draws on the details of her own unique, personal experience for every passionate line of “Rediscovering Your Happily Ever After: Moving from Hopeless to Hopeful as a Newly Divorced Mother.” The result is an emotional yet grounded guide book that many readers will find practical and genuinely helpful, and in some instances, inspirational.
