"The Gay Mormon Quilter’s Club" is about trying to be who you are when society and religion present conflicting views.  The most interesting part for me was someone being both a Mormon and gay enduring the struggles to try to live up to Mormon teachings. Not knowing much about the Mormon religion, I had to do some research so I could understand its philosophy and views on those who don’t follow every rule.

Through stories in this book we follow several gay men who are trying to live in a world that doesn’t want them while they try to learn more about themselves and find out where they actually belong. Although I found the premise of this book to be great, I got lost in who was who when reading their stories. It made it for difficult reading. I would have liked to see more in the titles of each chapter such as who was involved in the story, for instance Tinkle and the Half-Gold, Ryan, Chris or whomever. This was very distracting to me; I wanted to keep the flow going on my reading and didn’t want to spend the time trying to find out who the characters were and the role they played.

Overall, “The Gay Mormon Quilter’s Club” by Johnny Townsed was interesting. The author did a great job in descriptions, thoughts and setting the scenes.
