Katie had killed a man, a serial killer, who attacked her best friend and future sister-in-law, Moira.  Moira is the owner of a health club called Knowledge Is Power.  Gil, Griff and Doug are her three loving and protective brothers.  Detective Ben Marcum, Gil’s partner, wants to make Katie his wife but hesitates since he works so closely with her brother.  Katie gets hot just thinking about Ben; she doesn’t care what Gil says she wants Ben. 

When Katie seduces Ben he’s thrilled to know he was the first, but he wants more than a one-night-stand he wants a real relationship with her.  They both know unprotected sex is wrong, but it happens anyway.  Could she be pregnant?  Katie realizes she’s in love with him.  Ben loves that she’s adventurous; he buys her an assortment of toys.  Ben likes to dominate during sex.

Katie is leading a therapy group at the health club.  The group is for abused women.  Tory and Sandy but told their story.  Their husbands had abused them, one physically and the other mentally.  They were hoping that their tale would help the two new women, Jessica and Pilar.  A few days later Katie came home to find a large man in her apartment.  He demands to know where Jessica was.  He begins to beat Katie and tries to rape her.  She fights back biting his tongue and butting her head against his.  Ben comes in to find the man lying on the floor unconscious.  Katie’s clothing is ripped and her face is battered, swollen and bloody.  Katie is taken to the hospital where Ben proposes.  But that’s not the end of the story.

“Bare Confessions” by Lacey Thorn is so much more than an erotic romance; it’s a story depicting the abuse of women.  This book tells the plight of women in abusive families and advocating that they seek help.  The plot of this book is excellent.  It draws the reader in, gripping them through every last page.  How could a reader not love Katie, she is strong and self-sacrificing, putting other people before her safety.  Ben is adorable, strong, loving and oh-so-sexy.  There are lots of supporting characters and each helps to build this story.  All fans of erotic fiction will enjoy this story.
