“Color Me Jazzmyne” is a book that every woman ought to read at least once. Through the eyes and voice of Naya Mona, author Marian Thomas has given readers the opportunity to do some introspective thinking while reading about challenges that make us who we are today.

Naya Mona grew up trusting adults and being told she could be what she wanted to be. Her mother had died giving birth to her and her father was a hero in her eyes. She loved singing and acting and always felt at peace when she shared this with her father. One day the hero fell and so did Naya Mona. No child should ever be treated the way she was by her father and no child should ever become pregnant by her dad.

This is Naya’s story to her son- who came back into her life years later to seek the truth.
The author uses a crayon box as an analogy of her life and the attempts of those around her to change her to their liking. We all have a box of crayons that represent our life – how much control we have over the colors that go in there are up to us. Or are they?

Ms. Thomas’ first-time book, “Color Me Jazzmyne,” is easy to read and follow; while at the same time gives one the opportunity to re-check their colors.
