The Keys to Unlocking Your Potential “The Keys to Unlocking Your Potential” by Joanne G. Sujansky and Jodi Rhoads is for the person who wants to know how to change their life, but doesn’t need or want the extra stories or explanations that most self-help books include. This book consists of seven ‘keys’ the author thinks a person needs to unlock their fullest potential. Each key is laid out in a two-page, bullet-point outline with an inspirational quote at the top. My reaction to this simple book was so strong; I feel this book can change your life. Yes, I said the most cliché phrase attached to self-help books. “It can change your life.” However, cliché or not, this book has the steps and thoughts needed to reach your goals and be where you want to be. Anyone who has explored self-help books in the past will be familiar with these keys. Each of the seven keys is a well-known step to personal health and professional success. Entire books have been written about each of the keys and even most of the bullet points on each page. Yet here they are boiled down to a sentence or a phrase. I have just read in Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan’s “Money Drunk/ Money Sober” that most alcoholics do not realize the simple fact that the first drink they have gets them drunk. The first key, “Get focused on Priorities,” was a similar surprise to me. Completely self-evident, and yet, somehow, an unknown surprise. Once I wrote down my priorities, I knew my next step. Simple, yet I had not done this and I was floundering about, frustrated at my lack of progress. In fifteen minutes I understood how to set up my days to focus on what I wanted, not what was in front of me. I highly recommend “The Keys to Unlocking Your Potential” to any busy person, anyone who is unable or intimidated by large or long books, and anyone who has read a lot of other self-help books and just wants a reminder. |
