When I received “Stern’s Guide to the Cruise Vacation,” I expected to read just that – a guide.  What I got instead was the cruise vacation bible!  While initially a little intimidating because of its sheer size, “Stern’s Guide to the Cruise Vacation” provides not only ample information on planning a trip but photographs of the various restaurants, libraries, and bedrooms as well as menu examples of each and every cruise ship out there today!  Author Steven B. Stern provides an enormous wealth of invaluable information, ensuring his readers walk on to their ship with no unpleasant surprises whatsoever.

“Stern’s Guide to the Cruise Vacation” begins by asking its readers some important questions which can assist them in better deciding on what cruise company is right for their particular wants and needs.  From the basic questions such as ‘when’ and ‘where’ to much less obvious questions such as ‘age of the ship’ and ‘nationality of the crew,’ Stern asks for consideration on these points to help make their cruise vacation as enjoyable as possible.  He continues with more information on what to expect from the time they wake in the morning, past breakfast and various morning activity opportunities to relaxing and a sizzling nightlife.  Every port of call worldwide is included in the guide, providing not only basic, background information on the location but sightseeing recommendations to maximize your time there.  Finally, ample pictures and menus (complete with prices!) bring the pages to life as they show entire ship views, various bedroom setups, extravagantly designed restaurants, activity rooms, deck activities, and smiling guests having the time of their lives. 

What I liked the most about “Stern’s Guide to the Cruise Vacation” is how the author breaks down each cruise line to such detail that you know exactly what you will be getting for your money.  Coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about cruise vacations, this book was an educational breath of fresh air.  Its exceptional organization lends to quick look up when going back to reference or research while its language is easy to understand and flows from one subject to the next. 

“Stern’s Guide to the Cruise Vacation” is a must-have for anyone considering a cruise.  Whether a novice or a seasoned traveler, Stern strives to provide the indispensable information you need to get the bang for your buck from the vacation of your dreams.
