A lot has been written about on the subject of “You can’t go home again,” most of it on the negative side.  Keith Martin should have read some of that material before he decided to revisit his childhood and make contact with Dawn Ciavelli, his next-door neighbor, babysitter and surrogate mother.  Dawn still lived in the same house, right next door to Keith’s old home and she had hardly changed in the intervening years.  Meeting again as adults added a new dimension to their relationship as they found themselves falling in love.  And as Keith learned more about Dawn’s troubled past, the abuse from her husband David as well as a malevolent spirit conjured up by David and that is trying to manifest itself in the basement, he makes up his mind to take Dawn away and keep her safe.

This is not a book to read late at night when you’re all alone in the dark.  I had to put it away when I read about that something was knocking on Dawn’s basement door when no one was home but her and finish reading it during the day.

It’s an excellent book, needing a little proofreading and maybe a small amount of work on the dialogue, but it’s hard to believe that this is the work of a first time author.  I look forward to his next book…I just won’t read it late at night.
