The Legal Alien’s Guide: Building a Career and Life in Chicago, Illinois
How refreshing it is to see a resource for people who legally arrive in this country. Russian-born Tatiana Sorokina uses her experience of having lived in different countries to write this resource for newcomers to the United States. Her goal is to provide a means to make it easier for people who are unfamiliar with the area. It is mainly written for those who are relocating to Chicago, Illinois; however, some of the resources recommended are universal to other areas. “The Legal Aliens Guide” is written both for people who have immigrated to the United States and for those who are relocating within this country. Making this guide seem more personable, Sorokina relates her own personal experiences of what it was like to move here. Not only was she unfamiliar with the area, but she also knew very few people. Knowing the importance of networking to either gain employment or to start your own business, she offers some incredibly helpful ideas on how to go about it. “The Legal Alien’s Guide” is a concisely written tool to help you aide you in the usually stressful transition of making a big move. It offers a detailed list of resources so that you can pinpoint which ones will best serve your needs. It also has a couple of appendices that provide quick references. There is a great deal of websites listed which would allow someone to start making contacts before they even arrive. Every web address that I checked had active sites. Sorokina also lists a blog address that was written specifically for this book. If you are thinking of making the move to Chicago or one of its outlying areas, this is the perfect resource for you. |
