Thom Singer experienced 3 downsizings in 6 years. He survived the challenging times by relying on his finely-tuned networking skills. Singer coaches his readers to develop their networking skills in “Some Assembly Required”. The book has only 95 pages, but each page is full of networking ideas.

Singer stresses putting personal touches into the business environment. Some of these ideas may seem old-fashioned in today’s workplace, such as actually writing letters, rather than emailing; however, Singer explains in “Some Assembly Required” that networking involves developing long-time relationships, not just making your name well-known.

Singer suggests that sometimes it is the simple, yet thoughtful acts that make a networking relationship, such as sending an acquaintance a book that may they may enjoy or find helpful. I suggest that you send your friends and co-workers “Some Assembly Required”. This is a book you will refer to for networking suggestions or to motivate even the most introverted to go out and market themselves.
