They Still Drop Turkeys at KTWS in Bend, Oregon “They Still Drop Turkeys at KTWS in Bend, Oregon” is a collection of short stories, thoughts, and tidbits of information about humor columnist Lynette K. G. Sheffield, her family, her pets, her love of Classic Rock 98.3, and many other things. The format takes some getting used to as it reads more like a diary of collected stories and thoughts, though rather than contained chronologically they are gathered into “chapters” by general subjects – the radio station, rock and roll in general, parenting, pets, etc. The title of the book is a bit deceiving as the book is more about Lynette and her family than the radio station with tidbits about the DJ’s thrown in, sometimes unnecessarily to keep the connection. The best parts of the book, and the ones that will make the reader laugh out loud at times, are stories about her kids, pets, and life in general. The book may have accomplished more by focusing on the trials and tribulations of being a parent rather than trying to tie the themes to the radio stations or disc jockeys. Most people will have at least one or two stories they can relate to in “They Still Drop Turkeys at KTWS in Bend, Oregon,” but more importantly, there will be one or more chances to laugh, find relief that that “hasn’t happened to you,” and revel in the fact that even normal isn’t always normal! |
