First impressions are such a significant part of being successful in the world of today. “Success in 30 Seconds: Discovering the Secrets of a Winning First Impression,” is not only about success in the workplace, but also success and happiness everyday, for any occasion. The author, Seana, image consultant and motivational speaker, makes us aware that we are marketing ourselves no matter where we go, or what we do. We are telling other people a story about ourselves, and you never get a second chance to make that first impression.

In chapter 2, Seana stresses the importance of choosing the best colors for your clothing and accessories. There is a comparison list to show how colors affect your appearance, and sections to help determine your best colors, their characteristics, choosing colors seasonally, and how colors bring about different feelings.

The next chapters will help you choose a flattering wardrobe, and the best way to stretch your shopping dollars. This is ideal advice, especially for young adults who may live on their own, and not have anyone to help them with these decisions, and of course, everyone appreciates tips on saving their hard-earned money.

Following are chapters devoted to diet, exercise, body and skin care, and hair grooming and styling. All these are crucial to putting together an appearance that in that "30 second" interval, you will make a memorable first impression. If you’ve ever wondered which hair-do is best suited to your facial shape, or what shape of eyewear is most flattering for you, it’s all revealed in numerous, detailed, and easy-to-understand drawings in chapter 8. Seana gives tips for applying makeup to get the most from its use. All these will help you develop a good self-image, and gain the confidence you need make a great first impression, and land that job you’ve always wanted.

“Success in 30 Seconds,” by Seana, is a wonderfully useful resource. I remember being taught many of these principles in school over forty years ago. Over the years since, we’ve seen budgets slashed, and the material included in Seana’s “Success in 30 Seconds,” is no longer in the curriculum of most schools. This well written, easy to understand, and relevant book should be read by anyone, men or women of any age, who wish to put their best foot forward in personal life, or in the job market.

As for myself, I hope one day to hear that my two grandchildren are being taught the material in “Success in 30 Seconds,” in their classrooms.
