Six-hundred years ago, when an ancestor of the Chance family broke a witch’s heart, she placed a curse on him and his future lineage. Unless certain conditions are met, when a Chance man meets his soul-mate she will run screaming from him after having sex and die within seven days. The curse lets the Chance male and his soul-mate, “recognize” each other when they meet. Their contact begins with odd coincidences happening and chance meetings.
When Tristan Chance, a 300- year-old vampire, meets Lara Montgomery his feelings make him fear that the curse has begun. Lara is the future heiress of a wealthy cold-hearted, controlling man. Lara gets sucked into Tristan’s world when her father has to do business with him to save his hotel empire. Her father knows to be afraid of Tristan and does not want to lose control of his daughter, so he sends her away to do family business in Florida. It is already too late. Tristan and Lara have a sensual encounter that leaves her running screaming from his limo, just as the curse dictates. Now he has seven days to solve the curse or she will die.
Tristan goes down to Florida to enlist the help of his family and to try to get information from the ancestors of the witch. He has to explain what is happening to Lara. Assassination attempts on Tristan’s life further complicate the matter. When Lara falls into a dream state she finds out why the curse was placed and she learns how to fix the problem. Tristan enlists the aid of his brothers to help save Lara. The scene that follows is incredibly erotic. If more vampire stories had people being turned into vampires with scenes like this, we would all be out to make the change!
“Fighting Chance” is a well-written, erotic tale. The author Lacey Savage has come up with some refreshing ideas for the curse and for the vampire conversion. This is not your typical vampire story and the reader will definitely enjoy stepping into this world. One of my favorite parts is how they first meet, but I will leave it for the reader to discover on their own!
