The author has taken a unique approach in helping readers learn to empower themselves. Using metaphors and stories from theater, she addresses how we get stuck in our life and let others control us.

Topics range from assessing where we are in our life to conflicts we may face. One section I really enjoyed was ‘Breaking Bonds.’ Sometimes we have relationships with others that keep us in a negative mood and it is important to look at those and make the necessary changes. Each chapter provides stories from theater to get information across, as well as a section “Pause Please,” where the author has the reader contemplate what they have read and gives an exercise to complete to reinforce the information.

One downside for me was I found it hard to read in that I had to really remain focused to understand the metaphors. I found that halfway through the book I got bored.

“To Be and How to Be: Transforming Your Life through Sacred Theatre” is not a fast read, however, I do think it is an excellent resource with valuable information.
