Lipstick Traces
Twenty-year old Miss Z has run away to be with a rock star known as B. As she follows him around the world, she hopes to save him from himself and his darkness. In trying to save him, she loses herself. Miss Z becomes so caught up in wanting to believe false promises - what I truly feel her heart knows. As she desperately tries to hang on to his promises of eternal love, she sees him acting in ways that do not reflect his words. She also becomes caught up in the musician lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock and roll. As Miss Z is consumed and almost destroyed by B and his lifestyle, she hits bottom and realizes that she has to go off on her own. As she works through some serious issues, she learns who her true friends really are. Trying to climb back up, she returns home and begins to have some healing with issues that she was dealing with there involving her parents. Her experiences help her to better understand their own actions in dealing with a huge loss. Working through her pain helps Miss Z to not only find out who she is, but also how strong she is. “Lipstick Traces” is not a light read. This novel contains a story that has real depth. Ms. Rowland, the author, really manages to reach out and touch your soul with her words so that you really feel what Miss Z is feeling. As I read, I wanted Miss Z to immediately flee away from her codependent relationship, but she didn’t. Instead, I sat and endured her angst with her. Being taken so deeply into her character, there was a part of me that could understand her decisions, even though they weren’t healthy for her. I found “Lipstick Traces” by Kaththea Azzurra Rowland to be a deep compelling novel. I am glad that I had the opportunity to read it. It definitely left its mark on me.
