Jackie Leigh Ross has given the reader a story of friendship and compassion in her tale, “The Wherewolf?”  The story begins with a fearsome wolf that is fierce and mean to everyone.  This wolf grows older and calmer, and becomes very forgetful.  He is always losing his sweater, slippers, teeth, and eventually realizes he has lost his temper.  He is brokenhearted by the fact that he has lost the one thing that most defined him- his fierceness.

Sitting lost in the woods one day, the wolf meets a little girl who brings him love and friendship, in spite of his reputation.  At this, the wolf realizes that what he needed most was someone to love him.  No longer needing to hold onto the hate and meanness that were his trademarks, the wolf sets out to prove what a good heart he has.

This story is a sweet way to show how a small act of kindness can go a long way.
