Dem Boyz in Blue
In East Baltimore there has been an increase in gang drug activity and killings. The Commissioner and Mayor are fed up and intend to do something about it. Their decision is to put together a plain clothes undercover group that will put a stop to all this craziness. What upsets many of the officers in the Eastern District is that this unit is made up of all African American’s. There are some in the District that aren’t happy about this and they attempt to undermine the new unit. Each of these new plain-clothes officers must make choices between doing right and wrong, and how to save their own lives. Sometimes you have to play the game with criminals and that’s exactly what the men do. Their choices aren’t always the right ones when it comes to getting the information they need. The author, who is a former police officer, gives readers a great insight into how our law enforcement system works, as well as how we sometimes have corrupt officers. The language and characters are what you would see on the streets with drug dealers and informants. Although I found the book to be interesting, I was distracted by the number of misspellings, grammatical errors and how the story was told. I couldn’t tell if it was from a personal perspective, through the eyes of the characters or one person. It is very sexually explicit in some areas that might turn some readers off. Overall, I found “Dem Boyz in Blue” by Bobby Rodgers to be fast-paced, and interesting. I just would like to see a little fine tune-up in the way it was written. |
