The Green-Eyed Monster
“The Green-Eyed Monster” is about the relationship between two men. They live in Twilight Falls and both were born at the same time on a stormy night. They have different parents, no relation at all, but they are similar in many ways. Most of the story is from the point of view of people who have encountered the men throughout their lives. Martin Smith’s and John Becker’s first grade teacher, Ms. Chatsworth, was one of the first to recognize that they were very different from the other kids but alike between themselves. Martin Smith and John Becker were authors; they would write close to the same things. John Becker was more into going to book signings and stuff like that. Martin Smith liked to keep to himself. Throughout their life they have been trying to outdo one another. People who would be in there presence would sense the tension between them. Their readers wanted them to join up and work together, not knowing the tension between them. Martin would invite John over for dinner to talk it over with him, to try to explain to him that it was a good idea or that’s what John thought. “The Green-Eyed Monster” is a very descriptive piece which makes it, to me, easier to read. I can understand what was happening and what the person was thinking. This story was one those stories you just can’t put down once you get into it. I was surprised because usually I can predict the ending, but for this one I had no idea, which makes it a great book. If you are 15 or older I strongly recommend you read it. |
