Divided into five sections with thirteen poems, “Beadle Scat” is written from a Taoist perspective about meanings of life.  Each poem offers something different.  One thing that stood out to me is that some are beautifully written and others are brutally written with honesty.  This especially applies to “MAR.” “MAR” was the longest of the poems.  The book ends with it.  The words that make up this poem are so true.  Khepri Rising uses words that twist and turn your mind around as you are reading them, and then you get hit with the main point.  Ouch!  I discovered myself agreeing with his ideas, and then feeling sad that this is the way things are.  It made me think that as humans, we really have evolved into silly creatures, or maybe we always were that way.

The second poem that had a real impact on my thinking was “Zero.”  This is really interesting because if we take ourselves down to nothing, including our materialistic ways and our identities based upon this, we really are nothing.  Instead of being afraid or anxious about this philosophy, I found it to be very freeing.  If I follow this idea, instead of the ones in “MAR,” my life will be much simpler.  Other poems in this book reinforced this feeling in me.

“Beadle Scat” by Khepri Rising is a must read for people who like to think.  It will definitely make you do so, and then it will make you want to let go of the heavy thoughts and free yourself from the constraints humans have placed on themselves as we have evolved.  Reading this will definitely make for an interesting evening.
