An Unexpected BrideShadonna Richards
Having been badly burned from one failed romance, Emma Wiggins prefers to remain single and focus on her career. On the other hand, her ailing grandfather has other ideas for her. It pains him deeply to think that he will die without seeing her married. Knowing that he might only have a couple of weeks left to live, Emma tells him that she is getting married to her sexy, wedding-phobic boss Evan Fletcher. The words slip out of her mouth before she can stop them. When Grampa immediately perks up with the news, Emma has to find a way to convince Evan to pretend to go through with the charade. Emma knows that Evan avoids making commitments to women, however, she doesn’t know about the dreaded family “Fletcher Curse,” which Evan believes he will be subject to if he gets married. When Emma learns that her grandfather contacted a real minister to do the vows, she has a major problem on her hands. Dealing with her attraction to Evan makes her definitely want this wedding to be the real thing, however, she doesn’t know that he also shares feeling for her. A trip to New York to work on an advertising campaign for a wedding planning company helps Evan and Emma have a chance to explore their true feelings for each other, however, they still have to find a way to overcome their fears, and let the real magic of love happen. I really enjoyed reading “An Unexpected Bride” because the story contained both modern and old-fashioned elements. As a modern woman, I respected Emma’s desire to focus on her career; however, knowing how strong the power of love can be, I enjoyed watching her have to come to terms with her feelings for Evan. Her loyalty to family and friends makes her a rare treasure which Evan, in spite of his commitment phobia, was able to appreciate. The sexual chemistry between the two added a great deal of fun tension to the story. “An Unexpected Bride” is a modern romance readers will discover touches an old- fashioned place in their hearts. |
