Dat Phan has taken all readers on an incredible trip through the eyes of Mr. Dubois, a drunk, mean cantankerous man who enjoys nothing in life. Because he is a failure in life, he takes all his negativity and puts it onto others instead of looking into his own life and why he is the way he is. Not until one day when he encounters a gentle soul named Rice Boy, does he begin a transformation.
Who of us has not been in a position when life gets us down- we lose jobs, relationships and our goodness? We are sometimes so caught up in keeping up with the “Joneses,” or getting revenge on those who have it better, that we forget the simple things in life and the joys that come from within. Dat Phan takes us through the incredible change of one man, Mr. Dubois, who finds that what truly makes a person happy comes from within their soul. It is sometimes a dangerous journey into the unknown that very few are willing to take.
The author, an ordained Zen monk, gives all readers the opportunity to take a good look - a very good look - at their selves and begin to make positive changes. His ability to show inner- thoughts and conflicts through his descriptive and peaceful writings give all readers time to look inward. His characters are people we have all come across at one time or another in our lives.
“The Changing River: A meditative fiction” by Dat Phan is a very peaceful and insightful book.
