Colt is a killer that works for the mobster Don Gamboni.  He totally enjoys his job and likes finding ways to be creative about the kills.  In spite of this, Colt is extremely careful about not getting caught.  At the end of the day, he goes home to his family and just sees himself as a family man.

When the police discover the gruesome remains of a family that was horribly murdered, information surfaces that some rogue FBI agents might involved with the crime, and hope to implicate Colt.  This forces some good law enforcement people to get involved with the case. They have to try to thwart the bad agent’s attempts to cover up the truth about what really happened.  Having to try to protect the innocence of a man who might actually be a serial killer makes for a very interesting plot.

“Switchback” by Will Pettijohn is appropriately named.  The story has many twists and turns.  I found the author’s concept for the plot to be incredibly inventive.  There were grammatical errors that I felt could be easily corrected with additional editing, including those on the back of the book.  In spite of this, I think that murder mystery fans will really get a kick out of reading this story.
