“Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Can’t Read Maps” by Allan and Barbara Pease is a really fun book to read about trying to understand the opposite sex.  They present their points of view based on a socio-biological research.  Much of male and female behavior is attributed to how we evolved from men being hunters and women being gatherers.

The way the information is presented is humorous and really interesting.  What really surprised me was how accurate the authors were in describing characteristics of both the male and female sexes.  It helps to understand that your partners behavior is based on how their brains have evolved based on their gender.  After the honeymoon phase wears off, I think most of us assume that our partners act in a certain way just to drive us crazy.  Learning about why they do what they do makes it easier not to get so annoyed with them and not to take it personally.  I also learned why I have a tendency to do certain things that drives my partner nuts, like talk a lot when I am upset.  It isn’t to annoy him, it just is what comes naturally to me.

The book also includes a “Brain Wiring Test” that indicates the masculinity or femininity of your brain patterns.  This test is fun to take and reading the results is very informative.  I recommend this book to couples.  I think that it will really help them to understand each other and probably help prevent future arguments.  I also think it would be fun for women’s reader groups.

This is a fun book to read, you will laugh out loud and enjoy learning more about the opposite sex and yourself.
