We all have given a lot of thought to where we are headed in our life and whether we are going in the right direction. People around us try to influence us either for good or bad, and we also influence each other.

As a psychologist and college instructor of psychology, often my students will ask me “How can two siblings from the same family be so different?” Dr. Path has the same questions and addresses those in Chapter 1. He states that we all are born as blank pages and as we go through life our experiences shape us to be who we are today. Everyday we receive large amounts of information that must be filtered and then we must formulate thoughts, conclusions and theories.

He also tells us, as many of us know, that some have an active mind and others a passive mind. Those who have an active mind join in and look for knowledge, truth, justice and noble pursuits. Ones with passive minds are happy where they are and are not willing to do the work to find out who they really are and what they want in life. Life needs to come to them, so they will wait till it arrives.

Dr. Path also talks at great length about real contentment, which is not the material things in life – they can disappear in a heartbeat Real contentment is inner contentment – being happy with who we are. We spend so much time worrying that nothing ever gets resolved. We need to learn to determine if what we worry about is something we can change or not. Life is difficult; do we need to make it more difficult?

“Moments of Forever,” by Dr. Bill R. Path, is a very thought-provoking book that lets one do a self-analysis and then decide what they want to do – change or stay stuck.
