Nice and Spicy: 120 Tasty Recipes (Countertop Inspirations)
I love spicy foods and was thrilled to review this book. For the purpose of the review we are asked to test three recipes. My first choice was “Baked Fish.” Simple and very good, the halibut came out looking wonderful and the herbs used were a fantastic complement. Although the recipe asked for halibut you can use any white fish and it would be really good. It’s the combination of herbs and garlic that take the fish up a notch. The second recipe I tested was “Garlic Shrimp.” My comment is you can add garlic to cardboard and it would taste great. And, yes, the 3 cloves of garlic, combined with oregano, thyme and parsley make the shrimp taste much better than cardboard! I loved the added mushrooms because they not only stretched the dish, but also added their own unique flavor. Over rice...yummmm! We all know about apple cider or mulled cider, but did you know you can do the same with apricot nectar? We loved “Citrus Apricot Warmer!” The bottled apricot nectar combined with orange juice and lemonade, and then simmered with cinnamon sticks made a wonderful warm drink. I was thoroughly surprised at the taste. Combine that with a cool night, a warm fireplace, and relaxing music...and you’ve created an evening to remember. Do I recommend "Nice and Spicy"? Oh yes, I sure do. As I skimmed the other recipes I found many that I will be making. This book is highly recommended...even if it’s just for the recipe for the “Citrus Apricot Warmer.” |
