Everything Her Heart Desires
In the very beginning and throughout the novel, the author, L. Nuchell, portrays her religious and spiritual side in a pleasant and descriptive manner. Soon after getting into the story, the reader is reminded that your life can never be scripted or rehearsed. Whenever you make a plan, life has a way of making you realize that a higher power is in control. Nuchell has a brilliant way of hinting at and weaving the plot in and out of every paragraph that leads the reader from the start, to the middle, and to the end of a well-told the story. Her writing compels you to finish every chapter. One doesn’t have to be religious or spiritual to enjoy a good Christian story about soul-stirring love, laughter and heartache. With “Everything Her Heart Desires,” the author focuses on Christian living with the right person or persons to interact with. The story will reach the hearts of all from the age of eighteen to fifty. Nuchell’s occasional bits of humorous conversation are refreshing and pleasant. Humor makes the whole story worthwhile. Everyone loves to laugh - it makes you forget your troubles and you also feel better inside. Puzzling though is the relationship between the main female character, Leah, and her mother. Without a sufficient background as to the cause, the interactions and behavior between the two are disheartening. My feelings about the family relationship are mixed and their interaction didn’t come across as a pleasant one. However, the author did seem to resolve the mother-daughter conflicts in an acceptable manner. My favorite parts are the biblical quotes at the top of each chapter, and always seem to hit a nerve with each reading. Some of the quotes are comforting as well as sorrowful. My best favorite part comes near the end when Tim proposes to Leah. The setting - in the kitchen - is anything but romantic, but very touching and eloquent. It almost makes me wish I was Leah. |
