Our Fathers Who Art in Heaven: And What they Continue to Teach Us
Despite its unfortunate title, “Our Fathers Who Art in Heaven” is a touching, inspiring read. Gerry Murak has given the reader a collection of stories from people whose fathers are deceased. These people have poured their hearts out, and have shared the details of their fathers’ personalities with us to show what wonderful men they were. The collection of stories has been organized into sections such as “Attitude”, “Determination”, “Compassion”, and “Character”. This makes it easy for the reader to find a story pertaining to the situation he or she may be looking for. The title is a bit off-putting, as it has such strong religious undertones that it makes it very easy to bypass this book as a religious motivational book. It nearly steered me away from reading it, and I’m sure it may steer away others. However, if you can get past the title and open this book, you will find a wonderful collection of stories and personal essays by people who are brave enough to share their emotions and family anecdotes with the reader. In a world in which fathers are all too frequently cast in a negative light, this book is a refreshing tribute to the men out there who were wonderful fathers, and quietly added something meaningful to their children’s lives. This book is an inspiration to appreciate all fathers more. |
