Undercover Soldier
Austin Mitchell's book “Undercover Soldier,” is a great novel about drug wars in Jamaica and the fight to stop them. We get to meet Curtis "Bendoo" Johnson, a Special Branch Detective, who goes undercover to gain information about Gus McCreed, the head drug lord's operation. We also get to meet characters like Grosset, Ardez, Premba and Radigan, who are just a few of McCreed's soldiers. Fred Billings, who was raised by McCreed, now wants to take over control of the drug market. And, if that weren’t enough, Lex Malcom and Ken Stone also want to get Gus McCreed out of the way hoping they will gain control. Mr. Mitchell draws you into the story so well that you can envision the life that Bendoo leads keeping his identity and mission secret from the people within Gus McCreed's drug syndicate. Throughout the book, Mr. Mitchell shows what the day to day activities of a drug empire are and the fighting that goes along with it. The writing in this novel is similar to that of an author writing about the South who uses southern drawl for his characters. Mr. Mitchell's use of Jamaican dialect allows you deeply connect with the characters in the book, making the story more believable than that of a person writing this story just to write it. I thought this book was very well written and very engaging. I would say that this book is for anyone who is interested in reading about gang/drug wars, drug syndicates, turf wars or really anyone who wants to branch out from their normal genre and jump into a great book!!! This is my first time reading a book about this subject and Mr. Mitchell's superb writing has made me want to read another!! Thank you so much for writing this novel and sharing it with the world!!! |
