Communication Skills and Personality Management
Since 1985, he has been president of Vinca Corporation/SPEECH2, a firm bringing the buyer’s perspective of negotiation to the table. Besides convention and corporate meetings, he provides training and consulting services to clients in the US and abroad. His experience as a court appointed Arbitrator in the 1980’s and a Mediator for dispute resolution in the 90’s gave Robert an even better knowledge of dealing with people. His business acumen stems from a career as an entrepreneur and executive. Mr. Menard has delighted audiences in over 1,400 speeches in 47 states and 5 foreign countries. “Communication Skills and Personality Management”, begins with a very good introductory CD. A very pleasant woman’s voice (narrator) caught my attention and prepared me for Mr. Menard’s lecture. Robert began with an interesting look into Communication Skills. Literal and figurative elements of speech were the opening subjects. This brought out some thoughtful insights into how we express ourselves. Robert stressed good grammar throughout the CD with many examples. All the examples were very good and some even humorous in their presentation. Technique was another good subject that Mr. Menard covered extensively. He was very adamant about listening and developing good listening skills. The second CD of this 3 CD set, has to do with Communication. The three levels of meaning in any ones speech. What the speaker says, what the speaker thinks he is saying, and last, what the listener thinks the speaker is saying. He stresses communication skills in many ways, speaking clearly and not taking anything for granted are but two. His emphasis on technique again is exemplified by many different scenarios. Open mindedness and body language conclude this portion of the lecture. With insights into reading a persons body language and interpreting what he is really saying. The final CD had to do with Personality Skills. Bob began by talking about the Golden Rule of interpersonal negotiation. Mr. Menard continues with the four personality styles one will encounter in interpersonal negotiations. Analytical, Practical, Extrovert and Amiable personality. Logical, Emotional, Assertive or Reserved. “Communication Skills and Personality Management” was a joy to listen to. Robert Menard is a very eloquent man that speaks clearly, decisively, and with conviction. “Communication Skills and Personality Management” gave me the tools to be a very effective communicator. It made me stop and think about certain aspects of my own weaknesses in interpersonal negotiations. Aside from some minor cosmetic (CD Labels) quality issues, the content in this 3 CD set is well worth the money. Anyone wishing to excel in personal interaction with other homo sapiens will want to have this in their collection. I give “Communication Skills and Personality Management” and Mr. Robert Menard an A. |
