Dr. Mears, an internal medicine and Hospice doctor, has spent 30 years listening to her patients with her heart instead of a textbook approach. She is one of the rare physicians who look at the whole person and not just symptoms. Based on her experience and own personal journey, she is now giving readers a chance to challenge themselves to lead a mentally-healthy life.

We all know that life isn’t always full of roses- things happen. Should we feel doomed or put upon? Dr. Mears says “no.” We should take all our life experiences, whether they are positive or negative, and learn from them. In addition, she says we should question experts even if they are older than we are. That is one thing I know I can do. I even tell my college students you have the right to question me, as your professor-I don’t know everything.

“ABC’s Of Lighthearted Living…my Rx” by Margaret Mears, MD, seems quite easy to read and it is- there are many tips and encouragement to be found in each letter of the alphabet.  Dr. Mears reminds us to “Live each day as if it were your last.”
