“Chaconne,” the first novel by fly fishing, guitar playing helicopter pilot Joseph C. Mastroianni weaves together two tales – that of Milo, a man who lives a life as varied as the author, and Johann Sebastian Bach – composer of the Chaconne – the piece that Mastroianni named his novel after and that haunts Milo's (and Mastroianni's) life.

Milo's life is touched by death and haunted by guilt. Bach, like most of his contemporaries, is surrounded by death and tragedy. Through music, especially the Chaconne, both men, separated by centuries find their way to their ultimate meaning.

Mastroianni's work is well done, and his story is appealing. It will be especially attractive to devotees of Bach's music.
