Killing Yourself with Your Fork?: 40 Tips in 40 Days: Achieve Maximum Health and Vitality!
In the introduction Maloney asks “Do you wake up in the morning brimming with energy, literally flying out of bed ready to tackle anything the day throws at you? Or, like most people, do you slam the snooze button continuously in the vain hope of getting some energy to drag yourself up and through the day?” The important piece in this comment was “like most people.” It is said that over 150 million people in the United States and Canada are not well and much of that is because of their diet. As well, over 65% of our population is overweight which is another health concern. Maloney believes that our society has been brainwashed through advertising, greed, propaganda, and exploitation with fad diets. He contradicts the mainstream beliefs in “Killing Yourself with Your Fork?” and gives alternative, healthy tips, ideas, suggestions, and food-for-thought. Each section has a “diamond.” For example, the 4th Diamond is Alkalinity: Great Greens. Here he explains the importance of alkaline in the body to support the cellular system. The balance between alkaline and acid must be at the 7 mark for perfect balance. Too much acid, from eating meats, dairy, coffee, can cause low energy and create havoc within the body. Some ways to alkalize the body would be dinking lemon or lime in water all day, eating sprouted wheat breads, and using herbs such a basil, oregano and thyme. Of course, there is much more important information that Maloney offers. Being an advocate of natural and organic foods, as well as living a healthy lifestyle all around, I believe Maloney’s “Killing Yourself with Your Fork?” would be a great book for anyone considering embarking on a lifestyle change, specifically when it comes to sustenance. Nourishment of the body is very important and he certainly provides the tools and understanding to change bad habits into healthy ones. Achieving maximum health is not as hard as one may think, especially if you consider using the means provided in this book. |
