The day that a meteor crashes down outside the city of Bindmore, childhood friends Gracie and Jake’s lives are changed forever.  The meteor exudes a power that prevents the outside world from helping.  People are overcome with a terrible disease.  Others are changed into vampires, werewolves, Halflings or other creatures of the night.  Nearness to the meteor causes people to feel a powerful energy surge, 

Gracie holes up in Jake’s apartment after hers is attacked.  Always the adventurer, Jake leaves one night to see what is happening in the outside.  When he doesn’t return, Gracie finally gets her courage up to go looking for him.  As she finally finds him, she is attacked and turned by a vampire.  Jake is also now a vampire.  Given in to her newly aggressive nature, Gracie and Jake take their relationship to another level.  Gracie discovers a secret about herself that can help the others.  In the meantime, the vampire that turned her and a mysterious vampire master seek to control her.  She must rely on her power and Jake’s to confront this evil.

I loved this short story.  I wish it was longer!  Yvette Lynn has a wonderful gift for storytelling.  She has created an unusual vampire/sci-fi tale that hooks you and forces you to read it in one sitting.  It is probably better that it is less than 50 pages; otherwise, I might have had to stay up all night reading!  I also like that she incorporates the power of love into her story.  This adds to the magic of the story and makes it so much more enjoyable to read.  I look forward to reading other upcoming books in this series, “The Vampire’s Surge.”
