Shades of Love, Poetic Moments
When you are in love, your emotions run the gamut, from delight to deep pain. David A. Lewis expresses all this and much, much more in his book “Shades of Love.” The love he speaks of varies from mate, to family, to God. When we first fall in love we are giddy with excitement. We want to run through the streets singing and shouting out our loved one’s name, declaring our love where everyone can hear. In “I sing to you,” Mr. Lewis expresses just that feeling, “Even standing in a crowd.” Our love matures with time, “Growing with each passing day.” “Ultimate Paradise” paints a picture of the desire we have for our lover; our hearts pound, our bodies bond. Lewis describes the pain of loss and how it lessens with time. Our darkness turns to sunshine in “As the Darkness Falls.” “What is Love?” describes love as more than a giddy feeling “Love is a menace, for it hurts when it’s lost.” David A. Lewis is a tremendously gifted poet. I found his work moving. “Ultimate Paradise” is one of the most expressive poems I’ve ever read. The passion that lies beneath the words is evident. I was greatly touched by several of the poems that speak of the great pain of losing someone you love but also of the wonder and joy of knowing that person is “In Heaven’s Arms.” I was impressed with the way David A. Lewis expressed his beliefs. He speaks with reverence of a personal relationship with God. “He Blessed Me” speaks in wonder of the way we have been blessed. The title of this book is very appropriate for Mr. Lewis eloquently describes the many emotions that attend love. I want share these poems with someone I love, curled up in front of a fire on a winter’s eve. “Shades of Love” would make a wonderful gift. |
