Author Lewandowski has given readers everything they ever wanted in a book- love, murder, crime, mystery and mayhem. “The Burden of Truth” is the second book in her Gillian Jones series.

Gillian Jones, a probation officer in Bend Brook, Nebraska, works hard to help her clients get back on track and this is no different with her young client Jessica Coffers. However, most people in Bend Brook think Jessica needs to be locked up. Jessica gave birth to a baby boy, Logan, and somehow ended up under a bridge, disoriented, with the baby. Many felt she was trying to abandon the baby, but Gillian thinks differently. 

When Jessica’s foster parents come to Gillian about adopting Jessica’s son, Gillian is excited yet upset no one had talked to Jessica about this.  At the same time, Bob Johanson comes to Gillian to ask her to find out who killed his loving daughter. Gillian states she is not an investigator, only a probation officer, yet she agrees to look into the matter no matter how futile it may be.  Gillian has no idea what she has gotten herself into.

Once Gillian decides to look into JoJo’s death she finds that many are against her doing this, including the pastor of her church, a judge and the new arrogant county attorney Trent Green. Despite the attempts to get Gillian to stop this search, many are found dead and others have attempts made on their life, including Gillian.

The author is passionate in her work and has done great research on the legal system and crime scenes. With her vivid descriptions of her characters, events and environment, readers will feel they are right in the thick of the action with Gillian. “The Burden of Truth” by Lois Lewandowski is a book that is hard to put down; readers won’t want to miss any part of the action. Readers will find characters they love and feel sorry for, as well as those they love to hate.
