For The WeekendLyn Lawrence
Lyn Lawrence mixed a cup of romance, added a cup of suspense and threw in a pinch of humor, mixed until well blended and the result has been a well-done tasty book, satisfying fiction for recreational reading. Occasionally I like to read something that reads quickly, holds my interest and helps me to escape from the stress of reality. “For the Weekend” fits that description. Jeb is a bit unbelievable but hey it’s fiction. Jeb is one of those men you fall instantly in love with. Caring, protective, handsome, need I say more. From the moment he pulled Cassie against him to keep her from plunging to her death there were sparks and you knew where they were headed. Cassie is stubborn. Sometimes there is such a thing as being independent and then there is stupidity. She’s petite. I like petite women that are strong main characters, possibly because I’m under 5’. It’s easier for me to place myself, as the heroine if she is short. Anyway, Cassie is a widow, mother and student. From the moment I began reading how Cassie complains of the steep climb, I loved her character. “Besides, your legs are twice as long as mine.” I’ve said that before. The supporting characters are interesting, several hiding their own secrets. Ronny the brother she never knew about, CeeJay the insane villain, Henry, slow but lovable, Bobsy the dog that hates when people grin, Tammy Sue the adorable toddler that loves everyone and never does wrong and Mimi the maid/friend that seems to know what’s best for everyone: all of these combine to bring about the suspense and humor that abounds in this book. This is one of those books that you curl up with, next to a warm fire, with a cup of hot cocoa on a snowy day; or perhaps next to the swimming pool on a lazy summer day with a glass of ice tea. When you want to run away and escape from the pressures of life you need a book like this one. My only complaint was the name. This book deserves a title that catches the reader’s interest. The writing is well done. I believe Lyn Lawrence is a name we will hear again and again. Perhaps she will take my hint and develop a series of books using these characters. Ronny would make a great main character, as would Mimi and several others. Kudos to Ms. Lawrence. |
