The Story of the Circle Curtain
This is certainly a unique way to present a how-to book. The author brings in the main character, Lydia, as she journeys through her life in a dream state, touching on ordinary aspects of every day occurrences. It is through this character that Kidd inspires the artist in us all to explore the creative force that is just under the surface. Mingled throughout the book are instructions on creating various curtains, as well as door and wall hangings, using a variety of fabrics and accessories such as buttons, men’s ties, lace and appliqués. The colorful pictures of various curtains provide the reader with great examples to not only copy, but for inspiration in creating their own work. The back of the book gives step-by-step instructions in making circle curtains. The directions are clear and illustrations are given to help the crafter. Bunny Kidd’s innovative style of presenting a story within an instruction book makes this a fun read. “The Story of the Circle Curtain” is a sweet story, yet I sometimes struggled with the need for editing. Never the less, Kidd simplifies crafting and presents her talent in a refreshing and distinctive way. |
