Song of Salvation
The story takes place within the setting of a looming battle between the long-exiled Pandavas and the family who exiled them, the Kauravas. The Pandavas have returned from exile to reclaim the kingdom they believe is rightfully theirs. The Kauravas do not agree and are prepared to battle to retain control of the kingdom. Arjuna is a lead warrior for the Pandava family, yet is beginning to question the validity of this upcoming war. He is struggling with going to battle against family members. Krishna steps in and begins discussions with Arjuna to help clear his mind and to get a new perspective on the situation. Through Krishna’s words, Arjuna is able to come to a decision that he is comfortable with, and realizes that the war is just. The author does an incredible job of weaving a tale that reads more like a myth than a book of religious teaching. He describes things so clearly that it is easy to picture exactly what is going on, which makes the story feel all the more real. Regardless of one’s religious or spiritual beliefs, the words of Krishna are ones that all should have exposure to. Rajendra Kher has made this exposure possible in “Song of Salvation.” |
