Author Kathleen Kent weaves a parallel story of the two main characters, Martha Allen and Thomas Carrier.  Martha, considered old, by most standards of the day, is sent to care for and live with her cousin, Patience, where she is considered more of a housekeeper than family. Thomas is tall and strong.  He works for Patience’s husband, but struggles with a mysterious past that is somehow linked to London and King Charles I.  Martha and Thomas begin a relationship when he saves her from a wolf attack.  Soon, bounty hunters come looking for a man that fits Thomas’ description.  Could Thomas really be the one being hunted?  There are some secrets that are only kept with the wolves.

“The Wolves of Andover” is actually a prequel, or a companion novel, to Kathleen Kent’s “The Heretic’s Daughter.”  Since this book is being published after-the-fact, like many books these days, the reader already knows what is going to happen so it is more like the bonus features that get packaged when you buy a move.  This is the type of book that you will either love it or hate it.  Without having any preconceived notions or expectations, a reader could initially get confused in the beginning of the book as the story takes places in different locations and switches between the two main characters’ storyline.  The story is well written and the characters are developed and interesting.  The story of the wolves was my favorite and very much an integral part of the story.
