The Road to a Hanging His father’s dying words were “The army. Run to the army. Be free, son.” George “Free” Anderson followed his father’s advice and became a Sergeant of the 62nd United States Colored Infantry First Regiment. Lieutenant Parks Scott is one of Free’s few friends. Together they fight the Confederate. This is just the beginning of Free’s adventures. He meets real heroes like Bill Hickok, Charlie Goodnight and Bose Ikard as well as George Armstrong Custer. Free faces prejudice and hatred through out his life. Jubal, a diehard Civil War enemy, hates Free and is determined to exact revenge for an imagined slight. Jubal is determined to destroy Free. Parks and Free fight independently and together in one adventure after another. Finally a return to a real western! The action is non-stop. Mr. Kearby is a very talented author. The plot is action and adventure at it’s finest. The characters, jump off the page and ride into the sunset right before your eyes. Free and Parks are real heroes. You will long remember them both. This book would make a great movie. But read the book first!!! The plot is fascinating and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The print is a nice size and easy to read. The cover is beautifully done with bright colors and an illustration that makes you want to delve inside. This will be a favorite of youth and adults. It is with honor that I recommend this book to those that love westerns, fiction, action and a generally great book. |
